New Guidance Publication on BMP Maritime Security

Seafarers around the world face a range of maritime security threats with motivations that may be criminal, ideological, or political.

In this context, various maritime organizations have compiled a new guidance publication to help all vessels plan voyages and to detect, avoid, deter, delay and report attacks and incidents wherever they occur: the Best Management Practices (BMP) Maritime Security (MS).

The publication, which is free for all, assists shipping companies in addressing global threats through a structured threat and risk management process and offers guidance to help ships plan voyages and detect, avoid, deter, delay, and report security incidents wherever they may occur.

The Bahamas Shipowners Association (BSA) calls on all members and maritime stakeholders to use this guidance to conduct ship-specific threat and risk assessments in order to protect seafarers, ships, and cargo.
