On May 29-30, the Board of the Bahamas Shipowners Association (BSA) held its summer meeting. The Board was hosted by BSA Director Mr. Francesco Gandolfo and his team at the SAIPEM Head Office in Milan. They did a fantastic job, including a fascinating tour of their state-of-the-art drillship simulator.
The Board Chairman, Capt. Domenico Rognoni, navigated the Board through a jam-packed agenda of highly topical matters. At the very top of the agenda were our Members’ deep concerns around the proposed IMO long-term measures for the reduction of greenhouse gases – an issue the Board discussed in depth together with Capt. Dwain Hutchinson and Capt. Ghulam Hussain of the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA).
Also on the agenda were discussions on the proposed revision of the ISM Code, developments in ship recycling – particularly the Hong Kong and Basel Conventions – as well as our continued financial support for the LJM Maritime Academy in Nassau and the Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corp.
